10 Fortel leaders complete Mental Health First Aid training

As a labour supply agency with more than 2,000 skilled members of our family, we pride ourselves on putting our people first.

That message extends beyond professional support such as training and guidance.

Recently, 10 of our senior staff took part in Mental Health First Aid Training.

Mental Health First Aid is growing in stature and importance to companies across the board every day, thanks to an increase in awareness of the impact work can have on an individual’s mental health.

The construction industry is deeply affected by the ‘hidden risks’ of mental health and wellbeing – with research showing that depression and anxiety are at an all-time high in the sector, overtaking musculoskeletal disorders as a key concern.

Following consultation with the Lighthouse Club Charity, which provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families, we took the initiative of giving these ten key members of our team the responsibility of becoming Mental Health First Aiders.

Those who took part gained an in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing, as well as practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.

They left feeling confident in their ability to offer reassurance and support to a person in distress, while offering guidance as to how they can access further support.

We provide our people with access to a variety of digital information as to how they can seek help when required, but believe that the personal touch offered by having Mental Health First Aiders on board will allow us to be more effective in the action we take.
